These posts come to you from the Writing Studio and Bait Shop in northern lower Michigan, where many of us piece together a living from several occupations. It’s a great way to live if you like assertive weather and aren’t afraid of spiders. My favorite pastime is showing people around up here.
- Everyone knows we have lots of lakes (great lakes even) and plenty of trees. You probably know we have deer and wild turkeys and foxes and loons and bears and great blue herons – but you probably don’t know the best places to see them.
- You might know we have a large and growing community of artists who produce astonishing work – but you probably don’t know the best places to find them, either.
- If you have children, you understand the importance of finding kid-friendly activities on a rainy afternoon.
- Then there are the restaurants, the delis, the B&Bs and the rental condos, the campgrounds and the resorts, ranging from cozy-on-a-budget to way-over-the-top elegant. If anyone in your family has a disability, you probably wonder how welcoming and/or manageable all these places are.
Well. I can’t answer every question a person might have, but the plan is to write short pieces introducing you to some terrific places to visit and the friendly, accessible attractions and accommodations you’ll find there. I’m sure you’ll tell me if I’m doing it right – or not!
